The Ogun State First Lady, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun has welcomed the first baby born in the State with a call on parents to ensure that they do not compromise the importance of Exclusive breast feeding.
Welcoming the baby of the year born in Primary Healthcare Centre, Igbogila in Yewa North Local Government Area of the State at 12.01am, Mrs. Abiodun expressed her joy on the arrival of the baby girl, describing her as a great gift to the family, state and nation at large.
Represented by a Commissioner Designate, Dr. Tomi Coker, the First Lady appreciated the mothers for their roles in the society, admonishing them to be committed to giving excellent nutrition which protects the new born and toddlers from diseases.
According to her, the place of exclusive breast feeding in the lives of infants cannot be over-emphasized, given it's importance to their well-being.
The First Lady, who commended the members of staff of the Primary Health Care Center in Ignogila for their dedication to duty, even on a New Year Day, assured that the commitment of the present administration in the state to born children under age 5 and mothers remains second to none.
Mrs. Abiodun also advised parents to take advantage of the government's education initiative, describing it as necessary tool to reach the top.
The First Lady presented cash gift and other items to the mother of the baby of the year and other mother of the new born.
In his remarks, the Chairman, Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Health, Hon. adegike Adeyanju, who accompanied the Commissioner Designate, expressed delight over the choice of the First Lady to pick Igbogila, his hometown as a beneficiary of the Baby of the Year Initiative.
Honourable Adeyanju commended the Prince Dapo Abiodun led government for giving a pride of place to Health and Education sectors, describing them as very essential to human existence.
Thanking the First Lady for her timely kindness, the mother of the Baby of the Year, Mrs. Moji Koselu, said it had never crossed her mind that she would benefit from such a gesture.
Mrs. Koselu prayed to God to continue to grant good success to the First Lady in all her endeavours.
