The Ogun- State Chapter of the Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN) has called on the Ogun- State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to look into the use of Hijab by female students as promised recently during a town hall meeting with stakeholder in the state.
The AMIRAH of FOMWAN, Ogun State chapter , Alhaja Kudirat Rabiu made the call on Saturday as the association joined the Coallitton of Muslim Women Organisation (CMWO) to commemorate the World Hijab Day at an event held at the Ijebu-Ode Central Mosque.
The World Hijab Day with the theme "Unity in Diversity is a day set aside to speak up agianst victimisation and discrimination of Muslim women wearing Hijab.
A lecture on the topic " Hijab: My Identity" had earlier been delivered by the National Dawah Officer , Al-Wajud Muslim Organisation, Alhaja Tawakalit Oderinde who enjoined Muslim women to be above board and be an exemplar of good characters as commanded by Allah,. pointing out that hijab is not a symbol of oppression against Muslim women, neither does it hinder Muslim women from participation on theirvdesired roles in the society.
She further urged them to be very careful of the type of behaviour they put up in the society, especially when they wear hijab in order not to allow members of the public put a dent on hijab and Islam.
Said she " Whoever you are , once you put on the identity , be very careful with your behavoiur or how you talk or what you say , because people will easily spot you and identify you with hijab and that will be a minus for islam"
Alhaja Rabiu of FOMWAN said " I want to appreciate our amiable Governor for promising to look into the use of Hijab by our female students during the town hall meeting"
" We implore the Governor to keep to his promise and pray that Almighty Allah guide him richly to pilot the ship of Ogun- State to a safe landing", she further said.
According to Alhaja Rabiu, hijab is a personal and independent decision that comes from a sincere heart to please God while appreciating the wisdom underlying his command.
While highlighting some of the benefits of using Hijab, the guest speaker said " it shields Muslim women from harmful desires and temptations; it is an expression of chastity and modesty; it eliminates competition among women while above all it's primary motivation was to Obey the injuction of Allah( SWT) who handed down the command in the holy Quran Chapter 33 vers 59".
Highlights of the event included the recitation of the holy Quran and a drama sketch, while the Federation of Muslim women Association of Nigeria FOMWAN later presented hijab to some of the felmale students in attendance.
