The Federation of Muslim Women's Associations in Nigeria, (FOMWAN) , Ogun State Chapter has congratulated Islamic adherents on the celebration of the new Calendar year - Hijrah urging them to imbibe the spiritual lessons of Hijrah by promoting peace and harmony.
The group called on Muslims to note the significance of Hijra which means being "prohibited"or "barred" from all forms of warfare to promote peace and harmonious living among adherents of other religions while also urging them to use the period for personal supplication, sober reflections and prayers for peace to reign in the land .
The Amirah of FOMWAN in Ogun State, Alhaja Kudirat Rabiu in a statement said Hijrah which is the celebration of New Islamic Calender year is significance in all respect to Islamic adherents all over the world.
"Across the globe , Muslims observe their New Year on the first day of Muharram( meaning prohibited or barred from all forms of warfare ), hence the need for faithful to desist from all forms of strives that can threaten world peace ", the statement said.
" This is the period when Muslims are prohibited from taking part in warfare . It means " not permitted" or " forbidden"
" As a result ,we enjoin Muslims all over the world to use the period as a day for sober reflections as well as promoting Religious tolerance and harmonious living and supplication to God for the peace and progress of the land"
One of the significance of the day according to the statement is that it specifically marks the migration of the Holy Prophet Muhammed from Mecca to Medina, which signifies freedom from persecution , peace and harmony.
FOMWAN thereafter pray for prosperity among Muslim faithful and the society at large as well as besieging Almighty Allah to bestow His mercies by healing the land of all forms of plague, especially that of the ravaging corona virus bedevilling mankind..
