Consumers' Protection Advocacy Initiative in Ogun State Condemns Electricity Tarrif Increase and Hike in Fuel Pump Price

The Consumers' Protection Advocacy Initiative (CPAI), Ogun State Chapter  has lent it's voice to the call on the Federal government for the reversal of the fuel pump price hike and the electricity Tarrif Increase.

CPAI is of the the opinion that the new regime of electricity Tarrif Increase and the fuel pump price hike recently announced by the Federal government should call for serious concern and consideration for all and sundry.

It says that the new electricity Tarrif and fuel pump price hike is not only unfortunate and unfair at this time, but also highly unjust to the average electricity consumers giving the backdrop of supply ratio exploitative charges by the DISCOS while the hike in pump price giving the prevailing economic and inflattioary indices in the country t at the moment is uncalled for .

The Consumer Protection Advocacy Initiative, a non-for-profit  and non- governmental organisation established to protect and defend the interest.of Consumers observed that the Federal government rationale behind these sporadic increases  at a time Citizens are still battling with the excruciating effect.of the Covid- 19 pandemic run contrary to the National Assembly's submission to stay action on the increase in electricity Tarrif and hike in pump price of petrol , arguing that the time was wrong giving the obvious reality.

The Initiative while speaking further on the power situation in the country said what is expected as of now from the Federal government is a reliable and effective metering and functional power supply as well as a steady supply of the petroleum products as an oil producing nation without any recourse to unjust price increase or adjustment.

 E-signed.
