The Olabisi Onabanjo University Alumni Association, Abeokuta branch, will organise an annual memorial lecture programme to immortalise former Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Barrister John Odubela who died last week.
The Chairman of the Association, Mr. Sina Adefolahan made this known during the Association's meeting for the month of March, 2021 held at Opako-Adigbe, Abeokuta.
Adefolahan said the Association decided to immortalise the late Odubela for his immense contributions to humanity and the growth of the association.
He described the late Odubela who was until his death, the Head of Chambers at Rickey Tarfa & Co as a committed, humble and selfless personality always willing to support members of the Association as well as the needy.
" The executives of this Association are looking at organising an annual John Odubela memorial lecture and other programs which can be used to immortalise the late Barrister John Odubela in recognition of what he did while alive," the chairman disclosed.
Adefolahan charged the members including 28 new members who joined the association during the meeting to emulate the late Commissioner calling on them not to relent in supporting one another.
Speaking during a special session in honour of the late Commissioner, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Olu. Ola. Aikulola who was the host of the meeting, described the late legal luminary as humility personified and a bridge builder whose innovative ideas and selflessness brought about turn around in the State education sector thereby making his time as a Commissioner a watershed.
He urged everyone to make necessary adjustments and correct any wrong emphasising that being alive is an opportunity that must be well utilised.
Also speaking, a former bursar at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Dr. Abiola Tonade called on others to emulate Barrister Odubela by solving people's problems instead of compounding them noting that the former Commissioner abhored cheating.
On the impressive number of new members, the chairman lauded the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Olu.Ola. Aikulola for mobilising new members to join the association calling on them to see the opportunity of being members of the body as a means of giving back to their Alma mater.
