UNILAG Alumnus, Olatunji Ola-Davies Takes Charge as President Rotary Club Abeokuta Metro



A fresh injection of ideas into the activities of Rotary Club, Abeokuta Metropolis is being witnessed as Rotarian Olatunji Olakunle Ola-Davies, has been decorated as the 20th President of the Club at a ceremony of the club held recently in Abeokuta .

Ola-Davies ,popularly called "Ola Dee" by friends  and well wishers is an Alumnus of the prestigious University of Lagos and a long standing member of the club whose elevation to the top notch post was in recognition of his sterling contributions over the years and his support to the club .

He together with his team is expected to inject fresh ideas into the activities if the club for the  2021/2022 Rotary year.

Ola- Davies ,the Change Maker President took over from the  Opportunity  President , Rotarian Kolawole Olawunmi who served as the 19th President of the club.

In an acceptance speech ,the new President  thanked the club for the opportunity, while promising to consolidate on past achievements  of the club by following suit where his predecessor stopped ,while thanking the club for finding him worthy of the responsibility.



He said "Firstly I Specially and Specifically welcome you  to another Rotary year with the theme: *"Serve to Change Lives"* tagged the year of *"Change Makers"*; as we transit from the year of "Open  Opportunities" .

"Simultaneously, I thank you for entrusting me with the Privilege to Serve as your Chief Serving Officer (President) between *2021- 2022 Rotary year*"

According to him, there is a link between opportunity and change ,which he is ready to explore for the betterment of the club,while affirming that the success of a good leader rests on having a good successor.

" As the *20th President* of this Prestigious Club, It is my Goal and Desire to Sustain the Clubs Vision and Values in the Implementation of Projects and Programmes based on our Action Plans that will lead us to a Better Rotary Club of Abeokuta Metro in terms of *Performance, Proficiency and Productivity for our Members, Board, Community, District and Rotary International Brand at large"



He later performed his first official function by decorating his predecessor with the Past President badge while announcing that the installation ceremony will come up on October 2nd this year at a grand event. 

Speaking at the event, the Assistant Governor of the club, Chief Oluwasegun Kuyoro Emmanuel who represented the District  Governor eulogies the past president ,saying he performed creditable well despite the challenges if the time. He urged members kf the club to extend the support given to him to the new President,while expressing optimism that the new President will not disappoint them. He later performed the launch of the magazine for the year..

The event also witnessed presentation of Awards to deserving members..




Born on Friday 26th February, 1971 at Wesley Hospital, Ilesha Osun State, Olatunji Olakunle Ola-Davies attended Jehovah Shalom UNA Primary  School and Angus Memorial High School (Igbobi College 2), Lagos.

He was later admitted to the Faculty of Engineering, University of Lagos where he studied Materials and Metallurgical Engineering. 

By Providence and Grace, due to his exemplary selflessness, he had held various Leadership Positions right from Primary to Secondary School to his Department, Faculty and at the level of Student Representative Council at the University of Lagos. 

He began his working career at the Drug Production Unit, Pharmacy Department of Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) and over the years he had stint with, Kilburn Advertising, Prime Power, LEAD Resources Consulting, Gateway Telecoms, Gateway ICT/ Southwest Resource Centre,Christus Vincit Consult, German International Development Organization (GIZ), developing and implementing Marketing, Media Management solutions at the same time facilitating Human Capital Development Projects. 

 OLA- DAVIES, a Certified Trainer, Media Enabler Practitioner and Human Resource management Consultant is Currently a Principal Partner at Naija Channels (a Pro Media Enterprise Outfit) and BLEST (Business, Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Strategic Training) Skillz Consulting. 

He is member of Junior Chamber International (JCI), Amnesty International and TakingitGlobal (just to mention few). Olatunji belongs to different Professional and Non Professional Groups, Organizations and Associations where he had served in various capacities as Executive Council,  Board of Trustees and Directors both locally and Nationally.



Olatunji had attended World Bank and United Nation organised Programmes and participated in Several Conference locally and Internationally (Africa, Europe and America).

In 2020,he was confirmed as the 20th President of Rotary Club of Abeokuta Metro having Chaired and served in different Committees within the Club and at the District level. 

Married and a Family loving Person.

Rotary Club of Abeokuta was Chartered on June 28th, 2002.

The Inaugural meeting of the Club was held on 29th, August, 2000 with Eight (8) persons in attendance at Gateway Hotel Annex,Oke - Ilewo,Abeokuta.

The Rotary Theme for that year was " TAKE ACTION ". Inspired by this theme, all the pioneer members took action and as at December 2000, membership had risen to Nineteen (19). 

Then a Provisional club, it began to wax stronger. Weekly meeting were regularly held with the first publication of its  bulletin on Tuesday 5th September, 2000.

Subsequently, membership rose to twenty-three(23) as at the time of admission to the family of Rotary International on 28th June,2002 with  Rotn. Yinka Ijietemi as the Chartered President.

Within its short period of existence, the club actively donated cash to polio-plus programme and annually implemented  programmes and projects based on Areas of Focus of Rotary International and the District. 

Since the inaugural meeting, the Club meetings have been holding periodically.

The Club meets every Tuesday by 6.00pm for 6.30pm @ ABEOKUTA CLUB beside Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), IBB Boulevard, Abeokuta
