The free ITNs which will be distributed from house-to-house across the 236wards in the Gateway state, will take place between Thursday, August 26th through Monday, September 6th this year.
Briefing newsmen on the exercise at a media parley held in Abeokuta, the representative of the National Malaria Elimination Programme, Ms Mary Esema explained that Ogun state has been chosen as one of the states to benefit from the 2021 Insecticide Treated Nets, stating that the intervention currently covers 10 states of the federation.
In his words, the representative of the Society for Family Health, Mr John Ocholi identified the press as being key to the exercise, stating that the door-to-door distribution would prevent convergence of people at a point as being practised before.
Mr Ocholi explained that the ITNs should be spread under a shade for 24 hours before usage and people should sleep inside by tucking in the edges under the bed or mat.
Describing the exercise as as palliative-like programme, the Ogun state ITN Campaign Manager, Mrs Lola Raji promised that the nooks and crannies of the state would benefit from the exercise with a minimum of one for two persons and 4 for 7 persons and above.
Also speaking, the Malaria Programme Manager in the state Ministry of Health, Mrs Olamide Adeyinka harped that despite the ITNS being distributed every 3 to 4 years to households, malaria is still a problem that needs to be eliminated, therefore the need for every hand to be on deck to ensure a hitch-free exercise.
They all advocated the masses' support including the media, to ensure effective distribution and usage of the net, adding that the media has a great role to play before, during and after the distribution of the ITNs for people to sleep inside it effectively.#
