The Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba (Dr) Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle, has expressed his delight over the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Entrepreneurial Skill Acquisition and Vocational Training between the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro and Wessy Tailoring and Vocational Institute.
At the official ceremony held in the Boardroom of the Polytechnic, Ilaro, Oba Olugbenle informed that he had worked relentlessly to see that the event pulled through, adding that he was optimistic that the collaboration would help, not only in providing recognized skill qualification for students enrolled for the programme but would also help grow the economy of Yewaland and Nigeria.
He commended Management of the Polytechnic and the Chairman of Wessy Institute, Otunba Wasiu Taiwo for their commitment, and called on other business entrepreneurs and philanthropists to emulate Otunba Taiwo and partner with the Polytechnic in meeting it's objectives of promoting technological advancement in the society.
In his speech, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Arc.Olusegun Aluko, PhD, said the Polytechnic has made history as the first institution to implement the Agenda of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) on National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) with the signing of the MOU.
He commended Otunba Taiwo for partnering with the Polytechnic in making its objectives for skill and entrepreneurial development a reality, and thanked Oba Olugbenle for facilitating the relationship.
Otunba Wasiu Taiwo said the MOU was to deepen and formalize the already existing partnership between the Institute and the Polytechnic.
In his remarks, the Polytechnic's Director of Linkages and Affiliation, Dr Oladele Jiboku, said his Directorate had carried out a resource inspection of the facilities at Wessy Institute and confirmed that they are of high standard with modern equipment needed to support the programme.
The event was attended by the Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on Technical and Vocational Education, Professor Joseph Odemuyiwa who represented the State Commissioner for Education; while the Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Investment was represented by Mr Kola Osuntade, Deputy Director, Commerce and Investment, among other dignitaries.
