The international Association of Lions Club District 404B1 has empowered 400 youths and adults by training them in Baking and Fashion designing in Konifewo, Ota, in order to make them self-sufficient.
Additionally, as part of the international association of Lions Club August activities, 8 participants were given free paid one year apprenticeships training in Baking and Fashion designing by Ota Housing Estate Lion's Club and Konifewo Lion's Club.
Explaining the mission of the Lion's Club, Lion Modupe Olaoye, President of the Ota Housing Estate Lion's Club, stated that the club recognized the need to provide programs for skill acquisition and empowerment that youths in Konifewo could begin with little or no funding to help them escape poverty.
While congratulating the eight participants who were given free paid one-year apprenticeship training, the president encouraged those who were not chosen to take advantage of the one-day empowerment and skill development program, as the club will never abandon its mission of ensuring youths are self-sufficient.
Furthermore, Konifewo Lion's Club President Lion Damilola Kehinde urged the fortunate participants to seize the opportunities because the club would continue to monitor their progress.
Meanwhile, Clubs and social organisations across the nation have been charged to complement the efforts of the government by training Nigerian youths on different vocational skills that will enable them to be self-reliant.

The president who was represented by the First Vice President, Lion Adedeji Olusola explained that the empowerment program is part of activities for the month of August as the Ota Housing Estate Lion's Club and Konifewo Lion's Club pull resources to organise a day training programe on Baking and Fashion designing for the youths in Konifewo area
Also, the President of Ota Housing Estate Lion's Club, Lion Modupe Olaoye during her opening remarks explained that the clubs organised the empowerment programme in order to help youths in the area of skill acquisition that they can use to earn a living in the harsh economic reality
The President posited that there are very few white-collar jobs available in the country stressing the need for young people to acquire skills that would allow them to play active part in the informal sector of the Nigerian economy.
