The Power of the Spoken Words.

Mesaage Source: Writing/ Researching For Christ Mission.

" The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit."Proverbs 18:21

The tongue is a muscular organ in the mouth covered with a moist, pink tissue called the mucosa. It is involved in licking, tasting, breathing, swallowing, and speaking. The papillae present on the tongue gives it a rough texture. It is covered by a number of taste buds. There are several nerves in the tongue that help in transmitting taste signals to the brain, and thus helps in taste sensation.

The human tongue is about 3.3 inches in men and 3.1 inches in women  It is located in the oral cavity and it is divided into three parts; the tip, the body and the base. Apart from the above description, the tongue mostly controls the spoken words. The spoken Word is powerful. And, as can be confirmed  by the above scripture, in  the tongue, there is power of " Life and Death." The onus now lies on us to chose which is right for us. This is invariably saying that, if you use the tongue positively, you attract life and if otherwise,  you attract death.

The tongue can either be used for positive or negative ends.
Needless saying that the problem in the life of people, nations and inhabitants of the earth today are as a result of the type of words spoken into such life.We can easily relate with how powerful the tongue or the spoken words can be, if we  cast  our minds to how God created the universe in the first place. The entire creation of the world, was through the power of spoken words. In Genesis, Chapter 1, God said, " Let there be light and there was light .". Imagine, what could have happened, if God in the same breath had said, let there be darkness. What could have happened?

The Term Word Means Source

In Greek, the term word means logos. The word logos is defined as “the source that controls the universe, the written word or inspiration of God, or a logic and rational argument.” In ancient Greek philosophy, the word logos is defined as “the controlling principle in the universe.”

Did you also notice that the term words is an anagram for the term sword? Switch the letter “s” in the term words to the front and you get the term sword. Words are like swords because they can be used to harm you. In a way, words are more powerful than swords for the reason that they can harm or heal you at the deepest levels of your being.

Unbridled tongue can set the world on fire; it can set a house on fire and it can either make or mar.Tongue can bless or curse. It all depends on how it is used. How do you use your tongues?

When you confess positive things through your tongues, you attract positivity, and when  you confess negative , the same is attracted. The tongue is small, but it can wrought mighty things.

The Power of the Spoken Word.

The power of the spoken word is in the effect it has on those to whom we speak, as well as, the power the same words have on those who speak them.

Sometimes our communication achieves exactly what we intended, and sometimes unintended results are achieved through something called “miscommunication.”Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble."

Considering the 'powerful force' of the words we utter, we must discipline ourselves to speak in a way that conveys respect, gentleness and humility. Words are so.poweful, so much that while the person who originally spoke them may have been silenced, the words live on with a capacity to change the world through all those who embrace them. Words are definitely more powerful than guns. Think of other particularly powerful words: thank you; I'm sorry; I love you; hope; trust; courage; peace.

Words have many layers and are more than just a way to communicate because words have energy - they hold a vibration, have power, and can sometimes reveal our secrets. Words are powerful. Whether you write or speak them, they do have an impact on you and the others. They express feelings and share knowledge. They can change someones mood completely and ignite a spark in them.

Research has found that the choice of words can cause specific areas of the brain to activate and can affect a person's subjective experience of pain.
People use word associations to perceive neutral events as positive or negative. Words can hurt, but they may also heal.

Words are powerful: they can be used to offend, to hurt and to threaten people. Some words are like weapons, they wound like bullets, some are like poison, they slowly affect the mind and activate a lethal
semantics.Words have so much influence they can cause a person's life to change. For example, words have the power of life when we share the good news of Christ with others and encourage fellow believers.

What dif the Scripture  says about the tongue ?

Proverbs 15:4 – “A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.” This is invariably saying that, a  family of gentle speech, a church where people speak kindly, an office with such conversation, is like a Garden of Paradise where one would want to live forever and a situation, where the reverse is the case, will surely come off as a resentment as such places will disgust people and presents itself as a turn-off.

Isaiah 55:10-11

Every word that comes from God's mouth has power and authority. In the same way, when we make a declaration or a confession, it is an expression of our faith.

Final word

Be careful of your thoughts, for your thoughts become your words. Be careful of your words, for your words become your actions. Be careful of your actions, for your actions become your habits. Be careful of your habits, for your habits become your character. Be careful of your character, for your character becomes your destiny. — Chinese proverb, author unknown.

.We should learn to confess positive things with out mouth . The scripture says: Tell them, As I live, says the Lord, what you have said in My hearing I will do to you:
If you say you are sick He leaves you to your sickness, if you say you are poor, He leaves you to your situation because He is a just God. Numbers 14:28.
