A front line member of the Ogun State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations,Chief Niyi Oduwole has been installed as the Kakanfo of Imoru-ijebu.
The installation was part of the activities lined up to celebrate the 80th birthday of the Oru of Imoru-Ijebu in the Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State, Oba Adeposi Bashorun.
Oduwole is the Deputy Registrar, Corporate Affairs Division, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye,who is currently on sabbatical leave at the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ogun State.
He was at a time, the Secretary of the Ogun State Council of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (1997-2000). His membership of various public relations associations is a testament to his greater exploits in the profession. The list of course is endless; Member, International Public Relations Communication and Marketing Network, Canada;
Member, Public Relations Society of America just to mention a few.
In the Yoruba Kingship, the Aare-Ona-Kakanfo is the head of the Esos (warriors). It is a title similar to the field marshal, and is conferred upon the greatest soldier and tactician of the time.
This title was introduced into Yoruba kingdom by Alaafin Ajagbo, one of the earliest and renowned of Yoruba Kings.To be the Are Ona Kakanfo, you must be a great warrior and very courageous and a tactician for that matter.
Oduwole's fitness for this position is no doubt apt. A great Public Relations strategist and tactician is expected to make his wealth of experience to impact positively on his community.
Oduwole, was honoured alongside other eminent indigenes of the community, including a retired Permanent Secretary from Ogun State Civil Service, Otunba Abiodun Awere, as well as Chief Mrs Kehinde Okunnuga who was installed as the new Iyalode of Imoru-Ijebu, among others.
In his address, the Oru of Imoru-Ijebu in the Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State, Oba Adeposi Bashorun urged prominent indigenes of the area to contribute to its development.
The monarch in his remarks made it known that the indigenes were honoured as a result of their worthy contributions towards the development of the community.
The monarch said, “The community has decided to honour these worthy sons and daughters for being worthy ambassadors and for their unrepentant commitment to the continued development of our dear community. I, therefore, urged all of you to double up your support towards achieving our developmental goals for our Imoru-Ijebu town”.
Speaking, Oduwole, the new Kakanfo of Imoru-ijebu said, “I am excited at this honour and elevation. I must thank our father, the Oru of Imoru-Ijebu, Oba (Engr) Munirudeen Adeposi Bashorun for finding me worthy of this honour.”
Oduwole who is currently resident in the community has declared that upon retirement he has resolved to continue to be an important part of the community's progress, promising to put Imoru-ijebu first in all that he does,while saying the development of Imoru-ijebu is a collective responsibility.
