A constitutional Lawyer who is also the Resident Electoral Commissioner of Osun State, Dr. Mutiu Agboke has seen  the need for  Law students otherwise known as aspiring lawyers to understand the ethics of the profession and strive to be abreast of  the dynamics of excelling in the practice of the profession by not relying solely on knowledge obtained through their numerous degrees.

This according to him is necessary because  there is a marked difference between the knowledge of the law acquired n the colleges and being grounded  in  the practice of Law which will always stand them out in the larger  society.

Agboke who was the Keynote speaker at the inaugural Law Dinner  of the  College of law,  Chrisland University, Abeokuta entitled  Pathway to a successful Legal profession," observed that having a string of degrees in law does not necessarily guarantee success at the Bar.

Quoting the words of Aare Afe Babalola,  Dr.  Agboke observed  that :“There is a lot of differences  between law or the knowledge of law – and practice of law. Knowledge of law does not itself guarantee success at the Bar. In other words, one having a string of degrees in law does not guarantee success at the Bar. This is not, however, to say that one can be a good lawyer without a good knowledge of law. A sound knowledge of law is extremely important, as a lawyer draws from it at all times in his practice. But there are other equally important factors which lawyers sometimes ignore at their peril” … Chief Afe Babalola, OFR, SAN.

Agboke at the event  reiterated the need for the students to focus on their academics and avoid distractions from the social media as well as peer pressures. 

The event which was attended by the luminaries from various shades of legal profession in Nigeria took place at the College of Law Large Lecture Theatre of the Chrisland University Abeokuta on Thursday, 22nd February,  2024 with the students procession and other activities  lined up.

In an address of welcome, the Acting Dean/Provost of the College, Dr. Kayode Akinsola emphasized on the need for the students to take the bull by the horns from the beginning of their studies in the university, 

Dr. Akinsola equally posited  that Chrisland University has the best of the facility holdings and lecturers for aspiring Lawyers who might be thinking of having Law degree in Nigeria.

In a goodwill message, the first female Professor of pharmacy from the  University of Ibadan who is also the Vice Chancellor of  Chrisland University , Prof. Chinedum Peace Babalola noted that the law college, though being the most recently  accredited College in the institution  is very promising with the activities emanating f from the college.

Professor Babalola who was accompanied to the event by the Deputy Vice Chancellor and other principal officers of the Universiy  spoke about her personal experience and impression about lawyers, expressing optimism however  that Chrisland university will produced the best of lawyers that will compete in line with  the global best practices.

Hiighlights of the event were the Chrisland experiences shared by the students of each levels of the College of Law and their transformation had through the lectures and peer learning in the University.
