OLOWU CALLS FOR AN INCLUSIVE YORUBA UNITY DAY CELEBRATION 2026

The Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Abeokuta, HisRoyal Majesty, Oba, Professor Saka Adelola Matemilola, has expressed his support for the advocacy for an annual global celebration of Yoruba Unity day.

Oba Matemilola made the call while receiving members of the Foundation for the Preservation of Yoruba Culture and Heritage, who had been championing the project on a courtesy visit at his Oke Ago-Owu palace, Abeokuta.


The monarch commended the Foundation for the successes of its previous editions of the Annual Global Yoruba History and Heritage celebrations and also called for a collaboration with other Yoruba groups in order to accelerate the desire for achieving the Pan-Yoruba Unity Day.

Oba Matemilola, who was formally decorated as the Grand Patron of the Foundation, expressed the optimism that a global Yoruba Day is feasible and could be achieved as early as 2026 if all stakeholders diligently collaborate. 

The Foundation Board Secretary, Dr. Tola Adenekan, accompanied by other members, including Dr. Olugbenga Gbolahan, Mrs. Olabisi Adeesan and Reverend Omotoso, updated the royal father of the Foundation's upcoming activities and actionplan and appreciated the Olowu for his sustained support to the foundation
