For the Egba Comprehensive High School, Asero, Abeokuta, it was a memorable day filled with a sense of appreciation to deserving students, teachers and individuals who were appreciated during the 2025 prize giving day.
Thus, in a grand display of academic excellence and community spirit, the Egba Comprehensive High School used the occasion as was customary to recognise the outstanding achievements of its students and dedicated teachers.
One issue that clearly resonated with the event was the fact that the event, held on October 16, 2025, was a testament to the strong bond between the school and its alumni, with the Egba Comprehensive High School Old Students' Association (ECHSOSA) playing a pivotal role in the success of the programme.
The Principal of the School, Mr. Akinlotan O.M., welcomed participants, students , teachers and members of the old students, guest and dignatories to the packed school with the excitement highly palpable.
Mr. Akinlotan in an opening remark emphasized the importance of the programme, highlighting its role in fostering a culture of academic excellence and encouraging healthy competition among students.
The atmosphere that followed was electric, with students, teachers, and guests eagerly awaiting the awards ceremony.
The awards ceremony that followed lived up to the billings as it was a showcase of the students' talents and hard work across various categories even as awards were presented to the best students in different subjects, with special recognition given to the overall best students in SS1, SS2, and SS3.
The ECHSOSA's robust support to the success of the proze giving day was evident, with its members sponsoring many of the awards for both students and teachers alike.
A high-file delegation from the ECHSOSA, led by the National President Chief Olufemi Popoola, was in attendance, thereby demonstrating the association's commitment to giving back to its alma mater.
Although some notable alumni, including Estate Surveyor Akinwale Ojo (1986 set), Architect Dr. Koyejo Jolaoso (Arise 81 set), and Professor Olamilekan Akinrinola (ECHSOSA national Auditor), were unable to attend, but their impact was felt through their generous sponsorship of various awards.
Also, the 2000 set made a significant contribution, donating awards for the best male and female mathematics teachers and mathematics textbooks worth N5000 each to the best students in Mathematics in SS1, SS2, and SS3, respectively.
The National President, Chief Femi Popoola along with other old students' elders such as Alhaji Kamorudeen Adedo, Professor Lukmon Wale Adesina (AKA Luku Ewa), and Chief Yetunde Tanimomo (Née Rahaman) in the diaspora, all from the 1974 set, were also instrumental in donating various prizes.
The Achievers 1982 set was also well-represented, with Mrs. Olafimihan, Pastor Obadina, and Mrs. Josephine Ogunfolaji attending the ceremony.
The set's members generously donated cash prizes to both high-achieving students and deserving teachers, further demonstrating their commitment to the school's success.
One of the most touching moments of the ceremony came when Mr. Femi Kushimo, a retired Permanent Secretary in the Ogun State Civil Service, presented special cash awards to the two best students in Mathematics and English Language.
The award for Mathematics was given in honour of his late sister, a fellow alumna of Egba Comprehensive High School, while the prize for English was presented in his own honour.
The teacher's' efforts were not also overlooked, with the school management and the ECHSOSA sponsoring various categories to celebrate their dedication and commitment.
The recognition served as a morale booster, encouraging them to continue their excellent work.
As the ceremony concluded, the students and staff left with a renewed sense of purpose and motivation to strive for excellence.
The event served as a powerful reminder that with a strong support system from alumni, Egba Comprehensive High School can continue to foster a culture of high achievement and success.
In a vote of thanks, the Vice Principal, Mrs. Adesina, expressed gratitude to the ECHSOSA, the sponsors, and the students for making the event a success.
