An undergraduate scholar of the prestigious Bola Ajibola College of Law (BACOLAW), Crescent University, Abeokuta, Mujeebat Moyosore Idris, has won the 7th Edition of Alao Adavise National Essay Competition on privacy and data protection.
Mujeebat emerged ahead of the first runner up, Chiamaka Patrick, to win the much coveted 2025 edition of the contest organise by Lawyard in conjunction with Tech Hive Advisory Africa.
Her essay titled "The Invisible Audience: Can Online Platforms Safeguard Youth Privacy?" was adjudged best in a blind grading of over three hundred entries across Nigeria.
Presenting the award at the New Moot and Mock Court of the Faculty of Law, Obafemi Awolowo University,Ile Ife, Founder and Convener of Lawyard, Tobi Adebowale said the essay competition started in 2019 to immortalize late Alao Adavise, a young lawyer and advocate of data protection.
Adebowale stressed that the award, which had positioned Idris and Crescent University at a national forum, was instituted to celebrate legal scholarship and innovation, adding that her award-winning essay had since been published in the current edition of The Lawyard Journal.
In her live presentation of the essay, Idris concluded that "our privacy will not be gifted to us by platforms. It must be claimed through robust law, smart enforcement, and educated generation".
A final-year student of law at Crescent University and serial award winning essayist, Mujeebat has distinguished herself in several national and international writing competitions. She is the Winner of the Nigerian Society of International Law Essay Competition (2025), Winner of the Parliamentary System Support Group (PSSG)National Essay Competition (2024), and a Bronze Winner,the 2021 Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition among others.
Her essays and articles often interrogate societal realities through the lens of law, with notable works such as Between Justice and Torture: Nigeria’s Death Row Phenomenon published by Lawyard.
