The Distribution Sector Recovery Programme (DISREP) Meter System is a federal government initiative that provides free meters to Nigerians.
The Communication Officer of the Ibadan Distribution Electricity Company, IBEDC, in Ogun state, Barrister Ojuolape Situ, made this known in an interview with OGBC this Monday, in Abeokuta.
Barrister Situ explained that under the DISREP initiative, free meters are currently being given to customers already onboarded on BAND A and B, after which it will be the turn of BAND C and the others.
She explained that another scheme, the Meter Acquisition Fund (MAF) equally provides meters for only BAND A customers already onboard free of charge.
Barrister Situ pointed out that before now, Meter Asset Provider, MAP, was in place where customers paid for the meter and they would be compensated with energy.
The IBEDC Spokesperson affirmed that customers already onboard would benefit from the current free meter, urged beneficiaries not to make any payment for meter, registration or installation.
