Look Beyond the Optics of UK State Visit, Badejo Tells Tinubu.

A Professor  of Political Science and International  Relations, Babafemi Badejo has urged  President Tinubu to look beyond the optics of  his recent state visit to the United Kingdom which led to a £746 million financing agreement to modernize Lagos ports, but focus on optimizing the gains.

According to him the major economic deal which involves  the UK Export Finance (UKEF) providing a loan to refurbish (Apapa Quays) and Tin Can Island Port Complex, sourcing British steel is a welcome development  which must be optimised.

The international  relations expert  said the visit was significant because it was coming after a 37-year break, saying Nigeria should ensure it translates into tangible benefits for its citizens.

He saw the need for Nigeria to strategically leverage diplomatic engagements and prioritize domestic capacity building  and invest in infrastructural  development.
.
The visit  as he said  will no doubt  strengthen diplomatic ties, with discussions on security cooperation, education, and investment opportunities, but urged Mr.President to henceforth downplay the recourse to large entourage in view of the economic implications.

While commenting on the  government's decision to establish a Coventry University campus in Lagos, Professor Badejo  questioned the rationale behind choosing a mid-tier university, suggesting  that Nigeria should prioritize quality education and partnerships that add value going forward. # Waheed
