The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ogun State Command, has called for strengthened collaboration with the media as part of ongoing efforts to enhance security management across the State.
The State Commandant, Commandant Remilekun Omolade Ekundayo, MLCJ, mSPSP, made this known during a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalists, led by its Chairman, Wale Olarenwaju.
Describing the engagement as strategic rather than routine, the Commandant stated that the visit was aimed at fostering stronger institutional ties, mutual trust, and improved cooperation between the Corps and the media.
She emphasized the critical role of the media in security management, noting that journalists not only inform the public but also shape perception and serve as a vital link between the government and citizens.
“This visit goes beyond ceremony; it reflects our deliberate commitment to building a stronger partnership with the media, who remain key stakeholders in safeguarding lives and property in Ogun State,” she stated.
Highlighting the statutory responsibilities of the Corps under the NSCDC Acts of 2003 and 2007 (as amended), Commandant Ekundayo reiterated that the NSCDC is mandated to protect critical national assets and infrastructure, prevent vandalism and economic sabotage, support disaster management, promote community safety through initiatives such as Agro Rangers, implement the Safe Schools Initiative, and regulate Private Guard Companies.
The Commandant further outlined key operational achievements recorded over the past one and a half years, including:
* Arrest of over 210 suspects for offences ranging from vandalism to fraud and illegal mining
* Execution of intelligence-led operations that have prevented several criminal activities
* Protection of critical infrastructure such as pipelines and railway corridors
* Resolution of over 1,700 disputes through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms
* Recovery of over ₦23 million for victims of fraud
She stressed that security remains a shared responsibility and called on the NUJ to continue supporting the Corps through responsible journalism, public sensitization, and dissemination of verified information.
Commandant Ekundayo also encouraged journalists to continue projecting the activities and successes of the NSCDC while maintaining their role as credible voices within the society.
Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to professionalism, transparency, and proactive service delivery, she expressed confidence that enhanced collaboration with the media would significantly contribute to a safer and more secure Ogun State.
