The Controller of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in Ogun State, Dr. Ayobami Suberu, has assured that the ongoing protest by the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) will not affect the conduct of the 2026 WASSCE in the state.
Speaking in an interview with OGBC this Thursday, Dr. Suberu said the 2 pm examination scheduled for the day would hold as planned, urging candidates, stakeholders, and the public not to panic.
Dr. Suberu explained that the protest, which began on Wednesday and is expected to end on Friday, had not disrupted Wednesday’s papers.
He added that supervisors had been directed to arrive at their custodial centers on time to collect materials and proceed to their assigned exam centers.
The controller clarified that the industrial action was not targeted at the WAEC Ogun State office.
According to him, it is directed at WAEC National Office management, and the protests are ongoing in every office of the Council across the country.
Meanwhile, the protest in Abeokuta earlier caused tension when the gate of WAEC’s Onikolobo office was locked this Thursday morning.
OGBC reported that visitors waited outside, raising concerns about possible disruption.
NASU’s grievances include the suspension of staff upgrade programmes, the imposition of a minimum net pay policy, and changes to recruitment and examination processes introduced without consultation. # Waheed.
