Over 400 Traditional Leaders and Stakeholders Expected at Ake Palace on September 10
ABEOKUTA— In a bold move to strengthen cultural values and promote responsible leadership, the Egba Ogboni in collaboration with Hirealms Resources Limited will host a landmark workshop themed “BUILDING A BETTER EGBA OGBONI: PROSPECTS AND CHALLENGES” on Thursday, 10th September, 2026 at Adire Hall, Ake Palace, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
According to a statement by the Chairman of the Planning Committee who is also the Baasala Ijemo Egba Chief Ade-Adeniji, the 1-day high-level engagement, which will commence at 10:00 a.m. prompt, is designed to bring together the intellectual and moral strength of Egba traditional institutions to address the evolving role of the Ogboni in a modern society.
A Gathering of Egba’s Custodians of Culture
Organisers expect no fewer than 400 participants drawn from across Egbaland. Delegates will include Ogboni members from Egba Ake (Eku, Aarin and Agbeyin), Egba Oke-Ona, Egba Gbagura and Egba Owu, alongside distinguished traditional rulers, community leaders, scholars, and other key stakeholders.
The workshop aims to deepen conversations around knowledge, responsible leadership, discipline, ethical conduct, peaceful coexistence and sustainable community development* — values that have long defined the Egba people.
Building on a Legacy of Impact
This 2026 edition builds directly on the success of the maiden Egba Ogboni Workshop held on 30th November, 2022, which drew 137 participants.
The new workshop triples that reach and expands the scope to provide a broader platform for reflection, capacity building and constructive engagement on the future of the institution.
According to the planning committee, the programme will feature expert presentations, interactive sessions, practical discussions, Q&A sessions and case studies.
Key focus areas include the responsibilities of traditional institutions in preserving cultural heritage, promoting justice, maintaining peace, and driving community development*.

At a time when traditional institutions are being called upon to play greater roles in governance and social cohesion, the Egba Ogboni workshop seeks to reposition the body as a force for ethical leadership and progress in Egbaland and beyond.
“This workshop is not just about the past. It is about charting a clear path for the future of Egba Ogboni and its contribution to a better Egbaland,” the organisers stated.
