FG APPROVES N70,000 MONTHLY TRANSPORT ALLOWANCE FOR WORKERS.

The Federal Government has approved a Seventy Thousand Naira monthly transport intervention for public service workers to cushion the effects of the rising cost of living.

The approval was part of the resolutions reached at a conciliation meeting between the Federal Government and the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, held today in Abuja.

In a Memorandum of Understanding signed after the meeting, both parties agreed that the N70,000 transport allowance will be paid across all grade levels for a period of six months, commencing from November 2026.

The agreement was signed by the Director-General of the Budget Office, Timi Yakubu, NLC President, Joe Ajaero, Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare Office, Dr Garba Abdul, and the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Muhammad Dingyadi.

The meeting also approved the payment of peculiar allowance arrears with effect from May 1, 2026, to be paid in three instalments beginning November, and nineteen months arrears owed to health workers.

Meanwhile, the N70,000 allowance is for Federal Government workers only. It does not automatically include state and local government workers.

State Governments are expected to negotiate separately with their labour unions if they are to implement similar relief for their workers.
