YOMI OGUNSANU, THE MAN BEHIND GREAT ACHIEVER MAGAZINE

...A Journalist, Publisher, Author and Community Development Advocate.

Yomi Ogunsanu* is a Nigerian journalist, publisher, author and community development advocate whose professional and community activities have been closely associated with his home town, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.

He is best known as the Publisher of Great Achiever Magazine,  a publication which he founded in 1996, through which he has consistently promoted achievement, responsible journalism, community development, culture, public affairs and the contributions of notable Nigerians.

 Journalism and Publishing.

Ogunsanu has built his career around journalism and publishing, with particular emphasis on documenting people, institutions and developments that contribute to society.

As Publisher of Great Achiever Magazine, he has led the publication in covering government activities, politics, business, education, security, culture and community affairs.

The magazine has also provided a platform for celebrating individuals whose achievements and service have made significant contributions to their communities.

His approach to journalism reflects an interest not only in reporting current events but also in preserving the history and achievements of people and communities for future generations.

In 2024, for example, he led the management of Great Achiever Magazine on a professional visit to the Nigeria Customs Service's Lilypond Export Command, where the publication examined developments in Nigeria's export sector and advocated improved infrastructure and reduced administrative bottlenecks to support exporters.

 Author and Chronicler of Ago-Iwoye

One of Ogunsanu's notable contributions to the documentation of his community is his authorship of Who's Who in Ago-Iwoye.

The National Library of Nigeria's National Bibliography of Nigeria records the book as:

Who's Who in Ago-Iwoye — Yomi Ogunsanu, Yoguns Ventures, Abeokuta, 2015.

The publication is classified under biographies relating to Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.

The book demonstrates Ogunsanu's long-standing interest in recording the lives, achievements and contributions of people connected with Ago-Iwoye.

He has also published Who's Who in Remoland and Who's Who in Egbaland.*

Community Development

Beyond his work as a journalist and publisher, Ogunsanu has been actively involved in community affairs in Ago-Iwoye.

He has served in media and publicity committees for major community programmes, such as Ago-Iwoye Day Celebration.

In 2023, he served as Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee of the Ago-Iwoye Day Celebration, helping to publicise the event and the participation of prominent personalities.

His community involvement has also extended to education. During the 70th anniversary activities of Ago-Iwoye Secondary School, he served as Chairman of the Anniversary Media and Publicity Committee. Reports from the anniversary identified him in that capacity and quoted him on the importance of protecting and making effective use of facilities provided for the school.

 Celebrating Community Builders.

Through Great Achiever Magazine, Ogunsanu has also used journalism as a means of recognising people who have contributed to the development of Ago-Iwoye, other towns and society at large.

In announcing the awards, Ogunsanu said the recipients were being recognised for their achievements and contributions to the development of humanity.

This aspect of his work reflects a recurring theme in his career: documenting achievement and encouraging people who contribute positively to society.

 Community and Family Legacy*

Ogunsanu's community activities also have a family dimension.

In 2024 and 2026, he hosted the annual Ramadan Tafsir in Ago-Iwoye. At the gathering, Imam Akorede Badru commended him for continuing the family's tradition of service following the death of his father, Alhaji S.O. Ogunsanu, who was described as a respected community and Islamic leader in Ago-Iwoye. The report noted his father's contributions to the development of Igan Itun Nla Mosque and Islamic activities in the community.

The event illustrates another dimension of Ogunsanu's community engagement: maintaining family traditions of service and supporting activities that promote unity and communal development.

 Professional Identity.

Ogunsanu's career can therefore be viewed through three closely connected areas:

Journalism— Reporting events and developments and providing a platform for public discourse.

Publishing— Producing and sustaining Great Achiever Magazine as a vehicle for documenting achievement and promoting development.

Community service — Participating in initiatives designed to promote Ago-Iwoye's history, education, culture, unity and development.

His membership is also reflected in the Nigerian Union of Journalists' online compendium, where Yomi Ogunsanu appears among listed journalists.

 Legacy and Continuing Work

The story of Yomi Ogunsanu is closely intertwined with the story of Great Achiever Magazine and Ago-Iwoye.

His contribution goes beyond the publication of news. Through journalism, books, community publicity, awards and documentation, he has sought to ensure that the achievements of individuals and the development of his community are recorded rather than forgotten.

His work represents a combination of journalism, publishing, historical documentation and community advocacy — with a particular emphasis on celebrating excellence and encouraging development.

 30th Anniversary Celebration

On Saturday, 18th April 2026, the magazine marked its 30th anniversary at a high-profile event in Ago-Iwoye.

The milestone featured the Lifetime Achievement Awards, honoring trailblazers and eminent personalities from Nigeria's media, corporate governance, education, and public service sectors.

 *30th Anniversary Free Health Outreach*

In tandem with the anniversary ceremony, the publisher sponsored a free medical outreach (free eye screening, free eye glasses and free medication) for the general public as a corporate social responsibility initiative.

As Great Achiever Magazine continues its work, Ogunsanu's enduring objective remains the use of the media not merely to report what happens, but to document achievement, promote responsible leadership, celebrate community builders and preserve the history of Ago-Iwoye, his home town, and humanity at large for succeeding generations.
