As part of activities marking its 2020 week, which was held between the 1st and 7th of June, the Federation of Muslim Women's Associations in Nigeria, (FOMWAN), Ogun State Chapter has organised empowerment programme for its members.
The programme which was organised to give people a new lease of life involved training on the production of liquid soap and sanitizers.
During the exercise and in line with the current situation of the Covid- 19 pandemic ravaging the entire world , which has made the wearing of face masks in public mandatory , four hundred and forty six face masks were produced and distributed to members
The gesture was also extended to hospitals and market places with both men and women benefitting.
In the course of the activities, people were sensitized on social distancing culture (SODIC).
The cruz of the message of sensitisation was " FOMWAN says stay clean,stay safe and stay home", which emphacised the need for people to keep to all the safety protocols in curtailing the spread of Covid -19..
The Amirah of FOMWAN in Ogun State, Alhaja Kudirat Rabiu while speaking on the programme said it was part of the Association's contribution to the ongoing global war against the Covid-19 pandemic, saying the fight "should be seen as a collective responsibility"
" In organising the empowerment programme which include the production and distribution of face masks, we reckoned that government alone can not be left in the fight against the dreaded disease, hence every groups and association must play a noticeable role"
"This programme is a token of support by FOMWAN , Ogun State to the cause of making the society a better place by giving people a means of decent living. We also contributed to the fight against the dreaded Covid-19 pandemic through the production and distribution of facemasks and the sensitisation on social distancing ", she said .
She enjoined beneficiaries to make the best of the training while praying that Almighty Allah will lower his punishment on mankind by ensuring that Covid-19 is defeated in no time .
