Ogun Speaker advocates technical education towards Self-reliance

The Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Prince) Olakunle Taiwo Oluomo has emphasised the need to support technical education in the country, in a bid towards building a self-reliant nation. 

The Speaker made the call while inspecting equipment designed and built by the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, towards combating the CoronaVirus pandemic. 

He advised that the nation needed to look in the direction of technical education in order to be independent of other countries. 

Rt Hon Oluomo who was obviously elated, appreciated the ingenuity of the institution's management towards flattening the curve of the pandemic in the country, noting that the Polytechnic was due to become a University of technology.

Equipment inspected included, two models of Mechanical Ventilator, Multiple Outlets mechanical Handwashing and Sanitizing machines, Electronically operated Walk-through-Door disinfectant, a Movable Environmental Sanitizer, among others. 

According to him, 'Only yesterday, the house of Assembly passed a Law to amend the State's Technical and Vocational Education Law, which is aimed at encouraging the youths to embrace technical education'
 
He promised to  encourage members of the State Hallowed Chambers to acquire the Multiple Outlets Handwashing and Sanitizing machines for schools in their various constituencies, calling on well meaning Individuals to support the initiative of the institution by patronizing the products.  

Earlier while conducting the Speaker and his entourage round the equipment, Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Olusegun Aluko noted that all components used for the projects were locally sourced, lamenting that the equipment could not be produced enmasse due to paucity of funds.

He pleased for Support in order to make the Equipment available  in large quantities , so as to support the fight against the global pandemic. 

The Speaker was accompanied to the Polytechnic by the member representing Yewa South in the State Assembly, Hon. Bolanle Latifat Ajayi as well as the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Culture and Tourism, Hon. Yusuf Adejojo.
