Savanna Centre for Development calls for the entrenchment of Good Governance


Good governance and effective leadership have been identified as the fundamentals that propel development in any country. 

It is therefore important for the leaders and the led to place special emphasis on critical tools that will aid the socio-political and economic growth and prosperity of Nigeria and Africa by extension. 

The Executive Director  of Savannah Centre for Diplomacy Democracy and Development, SCDDD, Ambassador Sani Bala stated this while addressing Newsmen at the Leadership Effectiveness and Accountability Dialogue, LEAD - project town hall engagement in Abeokuta, This Thursday. 

Ambassador Bala who decried the level at which Good Governance and Effective Leadership mechanisms are being Hampered in Nigeria, noted that Nigerian leaders and the followers need to close ranks to produce effective leadership that drives good governance for sustainable development of the nation and the people .

As he said, the citizens owe an obligation to the government by supporting it's programmes and policies just as he advocated the need for the government, their agencies and the citizen to work in partnership for the promotion of transparent ,accountable and equitable governance. 

The SCDDD Executive Director posited that Savannah Centre is committed to contributing to the nation's efforts towards establishing the culture of peaceful, transparent, accountable and open governance in Nigeria and laying the foundation for a more democratic and people-driven and oriented government through the innovations of the ,"Council of the Wise",made up of 7 notable ,knowledgeable, experienced and widely respected men and women of proven integrity. 

Ambassador Bala said the LEAD PROJECT is expected to be for a period of two years, 2018 - 2020 with advocacy visits to Kaduna, Kano, Imo, Rivers and Ogun states that under the watchful eyes of the SCDDD founder professor Ibrahim Gambari and the Board Chairman, Mallam Abidu Yazid with the aim of propagating the message of Peace,  Good Governance, Accountability and Effective Leadership across the nation's six Geopolitical zones. 

Also speaking, the Managing Producer and Editorial Director of Development News Africa ,Mr Mayowa Adeniran advocated continuous interfacing between the Government and the citizenry urging the Ogun state government to embrace Open Alliance with the aim of bringing governance closer to the people. 

On her part, Dr Mercy Ogayemi kicked against Handpicking Candidates for Elections positing that a Transparent Electoral Processes will  allow people to choose their preferred candidates  a practice which she said must be kick-started at the Grassroots level.

A leadership effectiveness and accountability dialogue, LEAD manual, tagged the," 7 pillars Series", was unveiled at the town hall engagement with the aim of promoting good governance and engendering even development among the People.
