Barely one week after granting 50 percent discount on all year 2020 Land Use charge paid before the end of September, 2020, the Ogun State government has assured businesses and investors that it is taking steps to further cushion the effect of the pandemic on them.
The State Commissioner for Industry Trade and Investment, Mrs. Kikelomo Longe made this known during an industrial tour to a water manufacturing company, OGC Foods and Beverage Limited, Isheri and Honeywell Flour Mills Plc, Sagamu stating that the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led government was already taking steps to mitigate the effect of the pandemic on businesses across the State.
" We are not ignorant of the difficulties encountered due to the COVID-19 pandemic which has almost crumbled economic activities around the world. His Excellency and our team are reviewing several measures, geared at supporting industries operating within the State in an effort to cushion the effects of the pandemic" she said.
The Commissioner added that the Ministry would continue to create enabling environment for industries to thrive adding that the present administration was already working on a power evaluation to help address the power challenge facing industries as well as constructed over 90 kilometers of roads to aid movement of people and goods.
Mrs. Longe noted that the concerted efforts of the Abiodun-led administration at creating enabling environment for businesses have birthed the establishment of relevant Agencies like the Ogun State Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency (OGUNINVEST), Ogun State Public Works Agency (OGPWA), Ogun State Enterprise Development Agency and the recent inauguration of the Ogun State Business Environment Council (OGBEC) all geared to improve the Ease of Doing Business and strengthening the State's economic base.
She described the OGC Foods and Beverages Limited as a strategic partner with the State government lauding the company for attaining first class recognition as the producers of the best artesian water in the world.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Olu. Ola. Aikulola lauded the enduring spirit of the the chairman of the company, Barrister Elakama for not succumbing to the challenge faced at initiation stage of the organization.
He called on management of the company to invest in advertisement and ensure their products are available in Abeokuta, the State capital and other cities adding that a product with such health benefits should be distributed all around the country.
Responding, the Managing Director, OGC Foods and Beverage Limited, Mr. Yusuf Musa-Elakama noted that its facility has been rated as the best among 28 artesian Wells in the world commending the present administration and the Ministry for supporting industries in the State.
He appealed to the government for support in the area of power, funding for its recycling facility and more road networks.
Meanwhile, the State government has reiterated its call on industries in the State to use the state-owned job portal in recruiting their employees.
The Commissioner made the call at the Honeywell Flour Mills Factory, Sagamu stressing that the State is well endowed with competent and willing youths.
She also called on the company to engage in import substitution by sourcing locally and thereby boost the Agricultural value chain in the State assuring that the Ministry is willing to link the organization with relevant Agencies.
Responding, the Manufacturing Director, Honeywell Flour Mills Plc, Mr. Ifeanyichukwu Abadom who described the State as one of the most Industrial friendly States in Nigeria said about 300 people are employed at its fully-automated Sagamu factory assuring that the company would work on using the State portal for its future recruitment.
He called on the Ministry to help relate with other sister Agencies on issues that would help enhance their business.
