In celebration of this year's International Women's Day, the three female Commissioners in the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration in Ogun State have empowered some women across the Remo- Ijebu- Yewa- Egba (RIYE) divisions with deep freezers to aid the growth of their businesses.
The donors, Mrs. Kikelomo Longe, Mrs. Funmilayo Efuwape and Dr. Tomi Coker, Commissioners for Industry, Trade and Investment, Women Affairs and Social Development, and Health respectively, who spoke while presenting the deep freezers to the beneficiaries at the Office of the Deputy Governor, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta said the empowerment was their modest way of supporting women, considering their importance to societal development.
According to Mrs. Longe, women should be adequately empowered to ensure sustainable development of the country, stressing that empowering them would translate to significant economic progress across board.
On her part, Mrs. Efuwape disclosed that she and her counterparts decided to give back to the beneficiaries as an appreciation of the support which women generally are giving to the present administration in the State, urging them not to rest on their oars.
Also speaking, Dr. Coker added that the empowerment would bring positive ripple effect to the economies of the communities where the businesses of the beneficiaries operate.
Responding on behalf of other beneficiaries, Alhaja Tawakalitu Afunku from Abeokuta South Local Government Area, lauded the female Commissioners for the initiative, stressing that the empowerment would boost their businesses, especially in view of the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Other beneficiaries present include Mrs. Deborah Olaleye from Yewa South Local Government Area and Mrs. Oluwayemisi Agoro from Sagamu Local Government Area.
