The Federation of Muslim Women Association in Nigeria, ( FOMWAN) , Ogun State Chapter has congratulated women on the occasion of this year's International Women's Day, while urging them to promote education and enterprise in order to get the desired rights and opportunities in the world.
FOMWAN in a statement by its Amirah, Alhaja Kudirat Rabiu while making reference to the theme "Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal future in a Covid-19 world" observes that for women to be given equal right in the society ,they must strive to be counted in all spheres of life , including education ,leadership and decision making .
" Women of the world want and deserve an equal future free from stigma , stereotype and violence with equal rights and opportunities for all. To get us there, the world needs Women at every table where decisions are being made ", the statement said .
FOMWAN Ogun State enjoined Women of the Ummah to challenge ignorance and poverty by promoting education and enterprise among the women , saying foremost women in Islam including Nana Aishat was a schorlar while Nana Khadija was an entrepreneur.
The Association in the same vein noted that women such as Dr. Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the current Director General of the Word Trade Organisation and other notable women worldwide and back home someone in the mould of the State Deputy Governor , Engineer Noimot Salako-Oyedele and the Head of Service, Alhaja Selimot Ottun exemplifie good example of women holding the ace who should be emulated .
The statement while again congratulating the women on the occasion of International Women's Day being celebrated every 8th of March worldwide said women should no longer accept a second class status, but stand shoulder high inorder to be given the desired recognition and rights in the society.
This year's International Women's Day theme celebrates the tremendous efforts by women and girls around the world in shaping a more equal future and recovery from Covid-19 pandemic and highlights the gaps that remains .
