The Ogun State government has refuted the ongoing statement on the social media about the quality and standard of work being executed by contractor handling Oba Erinwole road in Sagamu, saying the contractor is handling the project to specification, contrary to the statements making the rounds.
A release by the Press Officer to the Ministry of Works, Mr. Femi Olayinka reads in part " attention of the Ogun State Government has been drawn to an online publication on the reaction of residents of Sagamu concerning infrastructure development especially on road construction embarked upon to ease the burden of road users.
According to the release , contrary to the statement expressed in the Eaglesforesight (an online newspaper) publication that, the ongoing Oba-Erinwole Road project at Sagamu is not being executed to the standard, the government said it would like to make it clear that the contractor responsible for the project is implementing the project according to the agreed scope of work and standard as entrenched in the contract agreement.
The release made it known that the contested road was ,awarded in Two Phases.
It states that Phase 1 was the sectional reconstruction of failed sections especially towards the canal, with the scope of work at this section including provision of new adequately-sized drainages and culverts, scarification of failed areas covering a total length of 1923.85metres, building up of the scarified failed areas with compacted stone base and laying of asphalt, while Phase 2 addresses milling the entire 4km stretch of the road surface and laying of Asphalt, among other activities.
It explained further that the contractor has completed the phase 1 activities vis-Ã -vis; the reinforced concrete drains are reconstructed and have been properly discharged into the nearby streams.
Also, the failed asphaltic section had been scarified, stone-base spread, wetted and compacted with asphalt overlay as shown in the attached Plates, while the phase 2 activities which does not require stone-base activity, are already ongoing with the milling of the existing asphalt surface, application of tack-coat and resealing with asphalt.
It added that the attached photographs are to lend credence and evidence to the importation, spreading, grading and compaction of stone base material on the scarified surface as against what the author insinuated, spread and wrongly fed to the public.
The government in the release said it is therefore, assuring the residents that the contractor is doing good, quality work and to the best of engineering standard and specifications.
Consequently, the Government reiterated that the present admtheinistration will not compromise the standard and quality of its projects.
It said the hitherto deplorable Oba-Erinwole Road, Sagamu which was abandoned for almost a decade was approved for sectional rehabilitation by the State Executive Council led by the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to further boost the Socia-Economic development of the area and the State at large.
Concerning the request for fly over around the Sagamu express junction, the release assured that efforts are ongoing to construct pedestrian flyover at the Sagamu Express junction to completely eliminate pedestrian-vehicular conflict experienced daily along the Sagamu-Express way.
