As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to mark the International Day of the Girl-child which is celebrated on October 11 and is dedicated to the growth of girls around the world, the Federation of Muslim Women Associations In Nigeria FOMWAN, Ogun State chapter has called for better investments in education of the girl- child in order to help them achieve their goals.
The Amirah of FOMWAN, Ogun State , Alhaja Kudirat Yeni Rabiu in a statement to mark the day on Monday calls for an end to all forms of discrimination, molestation, violence , and attacks against the Girl- child such as female genital mutilation, and other harmful practices.
" The girl child should be protected and guaranteed equal access to Education,
Employment Opportunities,Reproductive Health & Rights,Maternal Health, prevented from Gender-based Violence early Child Marriages, Female Genital Mutilation among others".
She also called for equal rights for the girl- child with their male counterparts, while particularly calling for the elimination of practices in some societies which promotes education of the male child above that of the girl- child ,saying equal opportunities for all irrespective of gender will ensure proper well being and upbringing for all child.
Alhaja Rabiu in the statement also believed that proper education of the girl child will go a long way in helping to attain the fundamental right of the girl child as well as guide against discrimination and molestation of any forms .
Speaking on the year 2021 theme which is "Digital generation. Our generation", the Assocaition also said there is the need to promote digital knowledge for the girl child as part of the goals of ensuring equal opportunity for all irrespective of gender.
