Nigeria Compuer Society Organises ICT Competition,Quiz and Software Development For Ogun Tertiary Institutions



The Gateway ICT Polytechnic,  Saapade has emerged winners of ICT Innovation Presentation Award for Tertiary Institutions  in Ogun State as the Moshod Abiola Polytechnic  Abeokuta emerges best in Software Development  Programme.

The second position  goes to Ogun State Institute of Technology   OGITECH, Igbesa ,while the third position goes to  Bells University of Technology, Ota in the IT presentation Award.


The institution also displayed its leading position in ICT for Tertiary Institutions in Ogun State by coming  first also in the IT quiz competition with Crescent University, Abeokuta coming second, while Bells University of Technology, Ota came third.

In the  Software Development  Challenge, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta came first  OGITECH, Igbesa also claiming  the Second position in this category  while Crescent University, Abeokuta came third.


The event was the 11th IT Development Contest among Tertiary Institutions  in the South West Region put together by the Nigeria Computer Society in conjunction  with the Bureau of Information Techmology with support from GIZ SEDIN represented by its Local Development  Value Chain Advisor, Mr. Sunday Idahosa and hosted by the Crescent University,  Abeokuta.

The objectives of the programme according to the Chairman, Nigeria Computer  Sociery, Ogun State Chapter who doubles as the Direcror, Bureau of Information Technology, Mrs Olatundun Adekunte is to provide a platform for building and enhancing ICT skills, interests and attitudes among students of tertiary institutions in Ogun State.


Adekunte stated further: "The competition was staged to  provide the needed medium of interaction between international organizations and students of tertiary institutions in the state. It will also  provide the medium of interaction among the students of tertiary institutions in the State. Furthermore, it will  provide a platform for encouraging institutions in the state to participate in National and International competitions" 

Notable IT Professionals  made  presentations during the programme".

Mrs. Adekunte further observed that part of the  competition's aim is to  identify areas of mentoring the student for economic sustenance after their studies.


As parts of the benefits of the competition to Ogun State, Mrs Adekunte informed that the solution will be jointly owned with the sponsor, for possible enhancement to suite and fill the necessary gap.

She added that arrangements have been concluded for post-contest mentoring, software training, industrial training placement, and possible job placement for deserving and outstanding participants.



The Vice Chancellor of Crescent University,  Professor Ibrahim  Gbajabiamila  presented the winners the award and charged them to be more focused and innovative in order to compete globally.

The Nigeria Computer  Society, Southwest Cordinator Professor Adebukola Onashoga was also on ground to encourage the students.


While giving vote of thanks, Mr. Tola Ajagbe, the chairman of the IT development programme committee, who doubled as the Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Computer Society,  Ogun State Chapter, appreciated the Vice Chancellor of Crescent University,Abeokuta for hosting the Programme for the second time consecutively. He  thanked the GIZ for their support as well as all the members of the society who contributed in one way or the other.
