As a follow up to Ogun State private sector participation at the just concluded Livestock Summit in Paris, a multidisciplinary team of French Experts have berthed in Ogun State, and have been having scheduled shared learning and capacity building meetings with Agribusiness concerns in the state.
On Thursday, 25th November a roundtable discussion with the experts which centered around making Ogun State maintain its leadership position in Food Production activities in Nigeria was held.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo who chaired the learning experience, listed areas where the team will collaborate to include Cattle rearing for beef and Diary, Piggery, Crops, Pasture and Medicaments and Vaccines.
The Ogun State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina observed that the partnership presents an opportunity to contribute to Agricultural agenda of the Ogun State government.
" It is an opportunity to advance the Agricultural agenda of the Ogun State government for job creation, food security and support to smallholder farmers. The visit can help Ogun Agric, national Agric and World Agric. The benefit of the shared learning experience should be sustained and reflect on the output and we should be able to answer these questions, are we getting more foods, are we getting more jobs?. Let me therefore assure you that this team has government backing; be assured of government support in Training and any other areas."
The Country Representative, International Livestock Research Institute, Ibadan, Dr.Tunde Amole in a remark assured that the institute will be willing to provide all the technical support to have a seamless operation in Nigeria.
"As an International Livestock Research Institute , we have seen that we can provide information and technical support. We can support in terms of seed production; to improve production in diary and beef and improve on genetics. Let me assure you that there are untapped potential in Agriculture in Nigeria and we shall work with you to identify and develop some of them."
The Representative of France Ambassador and the Regional Agriculture Counsellor for France, who is on the entourage, Mrs Sonia Derracq also speaks.
" On behalf of the Ambassador of France, we will support this partnership. We are sure it will be a sustainable one. We will be on your side always; we are proud to always be on your side."
The team comprised of different teams of agricultural experts from France who all expressed their willingness to give their all to the partnership, assuring that as soon as the stage is set, they are ready to hit the ground running.
