The Ogun State Government through the Ministry of Community Development and Cooperatives has revealed its plans to set up a 7 man committee from amongst the leaders of the Cooperatives Movement with proven integrity and experience to come up with ideas that will help move the Movement forward.
The Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Hon. Abayomi Hunye made this known in Abeokuta while meeting with leaders of Ogun State Cooperative Federation (OGSCOFED), Odua Conglomerates in South West and other stakeholders of Community Development and Cooperatives in the State.
Hon. Hunye disclosed that government is ever willing to give Cooperatives Movement the necessary support needed towards improving its operation adding that the committee members would among other things engage in the task of brainstorming to help Government improve and increase its Internally Generated Revenue.
According to the Commissioner, there is need for few changes in the operation of the Movement which according to him has been in existence since the time of Chief Obafemi Awolowo in order to tackle the present challenges facing it and for better output.
“Time is precious and with the limited time, there is need to look inward to effect positive change that will be of immense benefit to individual prosperity and that of the State in general”, Hon. Hunye said.
Responding, the President of Ogun State Cooperative Federation (OGSCOFED), Alhaji Wasiu Odeleye appreciated the government for the welcome idea assuring that the leaders of the Movement are ready to work with government for the greater good of all.
Alhaji Odeleye noted that there are 10 branches of the Movement which cut across the 20 local government areas of the state including salary earners promising that the Committee when inaugurated would deliver and restore the lost glory of the Movement.
