The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps,(NSCDC) has promised to give its full backing to the maiden edition of the Nigeria Public Relations Week holding in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, from Monday 22nd to Friday 26th of April, 2024.
The Ogun State Commandant of the Corps, Commandant David Idowu Ojelabi, gave the assurance on Tuesday while playing host to the Security Work Group of the Nigeria Public Relations Week headed by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who was represented by the Vice Chairman of the Ogun State Chapter of NIPR, Mr. Waheed Ogunjobi.
Ojelabi, who said he had given express approval to the request for support of the NPRW, declared that his Command is poised to fully support the week because he believes so much in collaboration and synergy between the security agencies and civil society organisations.
He added that his conviction was that there is the need to interact, plan, work and achieve together.
He said, "I so much believe in collaboration, in which we will interact together, plan together, work together and achieve together. Since you cannot do it alone and we can not do it alone, all hands must be on deck so that we will together achieve peace and orderliness in our society and move Ogun State and by extension, Nigeria, forward."
According to him, the command will like to collaborate with the NIPR in the area of capacity building, especially in the training of its personnel on intelligence gathering and investigation.
He noted that such collaborations will help in guaranteeing a virile society for future generations.
"Be that as it may, we need to work together. I so much believe in that and I have given approval to your request. We want to identify with the Week, we want to identify even beyond your Week. We want to enhance relationship between our Command and the Institute," the Commandant remarked.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Security Work Group of NPRW, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who was represented by Mr. Waheed Ogunjobi, informed the Commandant and his team that the Nigeria Public Relations Week will be the largest gathering of Public Relations professionals, with over 2000 delegates being expected.
He also said the NPRW with the theme "Leveraging Public Relations as a Critical Asset for National Economic and Reputation Renaissance" will have the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, as Special Guest of Honour while the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, will be installed as Grand Patron during the event.
Adejobi added that part of the critical aspect of the week is the engagement with students of tertiary institutions which is a way of integrating the younger generations into the dynamics of public relations.
He also disclosed that an engagement with traditional rulers, which is another aspect of the Week, will help the traditional institution to apply the principles of Public Relations in projecting their communities positively to the outside world.
Members of the Ogun State Chapter on the visit included the Head, Public Relations unit of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Mr. Yemi Ajibola; Head, Public Relations Unit, Ogun State Housing Corporation, Mr. Bukola Akinrinde, and Elizabeth Kuforiji of Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC), among others.
