(Opening prayer)
"Dear Heavenly Father, we come before you today acknowledging our weaknesses and shortcomings. Yet, we find comfort in your unwavering faithfulness. Help us to grasp this truth and rest in your loving presence."
Message:
I. Our Shortcomings
Let's take a look at some Bible Verses that established the fact that as human, we are not whole.
1. Romans 3:23 - "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
2. Psalm 51:5 - "Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me."
3. 1 John 1:8 - "If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us."
4. Ecclesiastes 7:20 - "There is not a righteous man on earth who does what is right and never sins."
Weakness and Limitations.
1. Psalm 103:14-16 - "For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust... As for man, his days are like grass."
2. 2 Corinthians 4:7 - "But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us."
3. Hebrews 4:15 - "For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses."
4. Psalm 73:26 - "My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart."
As human, we are naturallly Prone to Errors. The Bible also establishes this.
1. Proverbs 14:12 - "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death."
2. Jeremiah 10:23 - "I know, Lord, that a man's life is not his own; it is not for man to direct his step."
3. Psalm 19:12 - "Who can discern his errors? Forgive my hidden faults."
4. James 3:2 - "We all stumble in many ways."
Yes, we know we are not faithful in our tithe, we know we are not faithful in our promises to God. We know we are not faithful in our prayers life. We are also found wanting in our responsibility, either to the Church, or even the society in general.
Our Fears
Because of this unfaithfulness,we think our our God will be furious and mad with us and as a result , he would not cater for us. No. The way if a man is not the way of God. Isaiah 55:8-9 (NIV)*
8 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."
God's Faithfulness
- 2 Timothy 2:13 - "If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny himself."
- Psalm 119:75 - "I know, Lord, that your laws are righteous, and that in faithfulness you have afflicted me."
- God's faithfulness is not dependent on our performance
God's Response to Our Shortcomings
- 1 John 1:9 - "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."
- God's faithfulness leads to forgiveness, restoration, and growth.
Biblical Examples
1. David (Psalm 51) - God forgave David's adultery and murder.
2. Jonah (Jonah 1-3) - God gave Jonah a second chance.
3. Peter (Matthew 26:69-75) - Jesus restored Peter after denial.
4. Paul (1 Timothy 1:12-17) - God used Paul despite his past persecution.
Application:
1. Acknowledge your shortcomings and surrender to God's mercy.
2. Trust in God's faithfulness, even when you fail.
3. Rest in God's presence, knowing He is working for our good.
Conclusion:
We have seen that despite our Shortcomings, God is still faithful and he would remain so. He has always come thorough for us. He has been our present help in times of need. The best way we can pay him back for his gaotjfulness is to remain steadfast and renew our vows to be faithful to Him. God is still God
