The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta will on Saturday, the 25th of January, 2025 confer the Award of First Degrees in different academic disciplines on no less than 3,567 undergraduates of the institution who have been found worthy in learning and characters.
Our of the lot, the institution says it has produced 120 first class graduates, 1626 in the Second Class Upper Division, 1624 in the Second Class Lower Division,164 third class and 33 Veterinary Medicine Degrees.
In the post graduate category, the University also said a total of 30 post graduate Dipomas,274 Masters Degree and 126 PhD Degrees are to be awarded.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Olusola Kehinde who made this known this Wednesday while presiding over a Press Conference heralding the 32nd Convocation of the institution also informed that in line with the mandate to advance the cause of Agriculture and promote food security, there will be a Convocation lecture to be delivered by the Executive Secretary, National Agricultural Development Fund, Alhaji Abu Ibrahim.
Professor Kehinde who informed that the institution which has had the privileged of being led by dedicated officials in the past has been able to increase its number of colleges from three to no less s than 10 while eight additional new programmes have been introduced in order to expand the scope of the University.
Some of tbe new programmes as he said are: Cyber Security, Data Science, Software Engineering, Information System, information Technology, Information and Communication Technology, Applied Indusrial Chemistry, all of which brings the total of academic programmes to 38 with 54 departments in all.
According to him, in the course of the year under review, the National University Commission( NUC) also released the result of accreditation of seven courses which were due for accreditation with the entire course being fully accredited, while saying that all the course being run by the University are fully accredited.
In the areas of research which is the second mandate of the institution, Professor Kehinde informed that the University crop of researchers have recorded great feats winning awards and grants that run into millions of dollars while the University also received a umber of awards from notable institutions and organisations in the course of the year.
Professor Kehinde while speaking on rhe University Agriculture Revitalisation efforts said the Federal University of Agriculture has prioritise Public Private Partnership as it currently partners no less than 30 reputable organisations majority of whom are currently engaging in cutting edge and ground- breaking agricultural revolution to address the acute food shortage in the country as well as contribute to the food security drive of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu- led administration.
The Convocation ceremony as he said will continue on Thursday and Friday with the exhibiton of research outputs and products while the German Consular- General is also being expected to conduct the exhibition of agricultural mechanisation machineries with the event climaxing on Satuday with the Convocation lecture and award of various degrees and diplomas.
The press conference was attended by all the principal officers of the University including the Chairman of the Ogun State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists( NUJ), Comrade Wale Olanrewaju.
