Crescent University has once again reaffirmed its reputation for academic excellence, standing out on both national and international stages. This time, the Department of Mass Communication brought home a silver award, making a bold statement as the only private institution to compete in the event.
The competition was organised by Penpushing as part of its 7th Anniversary celebration, themed “Reworking Nigeria's Federalism: Perspectives to Restructuring the Future on Fiscal Federalism.”
Focused on testing candidates’ news-writing skills, the contest challenged participants to work under tight deadlines, produce compelling and factual stories, and demonstrate a strong grasp of the concepts presented by the guest lecturer.
Out of seven participating institutions—including Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (Abeokuta), Olabisi Onabanjo University (Ago Iwoye), University of Ibadan, DS Adegbenro Polytechnic (Itori), Harvarde School of Management Studies, and the Federal College of Education (Osiele)—Crescent University secured second place.
Representing Crescent were Jimoh Teslima (Final Year) and Ashimi Muhsin (300 Level), in line with competition rules. Both delivered commendable performances, with Ashimi Muhsin earning second place overall among 14 contestants.
Founder of Penpushing, Kayode Adedeji, congratulated the top three winners and encouraged all participants to keep honing their craft, stressing that the competition’s ultimate goal was to inspire Mass Communication and Media Studies students to improve their writing skills and deepen their knowledge.
For Crescent University, the silver win is more than a trophy—it is a testament to the dedication of its lecturers and students, and a reaffirmation of what the institution stands for: excellence, resilience, and the pursuit of knowledge.
