The Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Abeokuta Chapter, Engr. Olumayowa Idowu, FNSE has been appointed by the Federal Government to serve on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Review Panel for the proposed Sigma Industrial Park Project in Kemta Orile, Ajipatutu Village, Ewekoro Local Government Area, Ogun State.
The appointment, conveyed through an official letter from the Federal Ministry of Environment and signed by Shittu Hussain on behalf of the Honourable Minister, recognizes Engr. Idowu’s professional expertise and wealth of experience in engineering and environmental matters.
As a member of the multi-agency Review Panel, which also includes representatives from the Ewekoro Local Government Council, Ogun State Ministry of Environment, and the Federal Ministry of Environment, Engr. Idowu will play a critical role in assessing the draft EIA report for the project. The panel’s responsibilities include evaluating baseline environmental data, identifying gaps, and reviewing the adequacy of proposed mitigation measures, with particular focus on engineering considerations.
In response to the appointment, Engr. Idowu expressed gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed the Committee’s commitment to ensuring a thorough and objective review that balances industrial growth with environmental sustainability.
The Sigma Industrial Park Project, being undertaken by Sigma Industrial Park Limited, is projected to boost industrial activities, create jobs, and improve infrastructure in Ogun State. The Review Panel’s findings and recommendations will be submitted to the Federal Ministry for final approval.
