The Ogun State Community Development Council, in partnership with the Ministry of Community Development and Cooperatives, is set to inaugurate the newly elected executives of the Ijoko-Oyero-Oluke Area Community Development Council (ACDC), with Mr Ganiyu Olowu taking the helm as Chairman.
The ceremony, coordinated by the Ifo Zonal Community Development Committee, will be led by Prince Michael Akinbola, Vice Chairman of the Zonal Committee. It is scheduled for Saturday, 9th August 2025, at Abbey Place Hotel, Oyero, Ogun State.
Oyero ACDC oversees more than 53 Community Development Associations (CDAs) within a rapidly growing corridor that spans border communities between Lagos and Ogun States. The incoming executive council is expected to champion inclusive development, strategic engagement, and results-oriented leadership across the region.
Outgoing Chairperson, Olori Mujidat Ayorinde, expressed confidence in the leadership transition, describing Mr Olowu as “a reliable and qualified community leader” with a proven track record. “He has consistently shown a deep commitment to service, grassroots mobilisation, and sustainable development,” she said.
Youth leaders and neighbouring community heads have also welcomed the appointment with optimism, citing Mr Olowu’s background in media, public relations, and civil society engagement as strengths that will serve the council well.
The inauguration reflects Ogun State’s commitment to structured grassroots governance. Over the years, the government has continued to support CDAs and ACDCs across the state’s 20 local government areas, recognising their pivotal role in driving local development and civic participation.
In response to his election, Mr Olowu pledged to unify CDAs under the ACDC umbrella, strengthen partnerships, and deepen participatory governance. “This is a call to serve. I am fully committed to working with all stakeholders to achieve shared progress,” he said.
A 1997 graduate of Mass Communication from Ogun State Polytechnic, Abeokuta (now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic), Mr Olowu holds a Master’s degree in Communication Studies from Lagos State University (2008), and a BSc in Mass Communication from Crescent University, Abeokuta (2022). He is a Fellow of the Bloomberg Media Initiative Africa at the prestigious Lagos Business School (LBS) and has received specialised training in community development and grassroots governance from the Ogun State Social Development Training Institute, Shasha, Iperu.
Commenting on the development, veteran broadcaster and former General Manager of NTA Katsina and OGTV, Alhaji Ayinde Soaga, described Olowu’s emergence as “another exciting milestone in MAPOLY Alumni’s ongoing record of excellence.” Speaking on behalf of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Alumni Association (MAPALUM), he praised Olowu’s dedication to development and offered prayers for a successful tenure.
Mr Gafar Odubote, Chairman of the Lagos Chapter of MAPALUM, echoed this sentiment, adding: “His election reinforces the values and leadership principles instilled in us by our great alma mater. We are confident that his time in office will be marked by transformation and strategic impact.”
The inauguration will draw attendance from high-level stakeholders in community governance, including state and local government directors of community development, zonal CDC coordinators, traditional rulers, youth leaders, faith-based organisations, market associations, and local security volunteer groups.
