Engr. Olumayowa Ayodeji Idowu, FNSE, Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Abeokuta Branch, has been awarded the prestigious Young Professional Excellence Award for Leadership by the Federation of African Engineering Organizations (FAEO).
The award was presented by FAEO President, Engr. Refilwe Buthelezi, at the 11th UNESCO – Africa Engineering Week and the 9th African Engineering Conference, held at the Speke Resort Convention Centre in Munyonyo, Kampala, Uganda.
This year’s conference, themed "Leveraging Engineering Innovations and Technology to Accelerate Africa's Socio-Economic Transformation," focused on recognizing emerging leaders who are making significant strides in engineering across Africa.
Engr. Idowu, who is the youngest Chairman of NSE Abeokuta, was selected for the award following a rigorous evaluation process, with nominees considered from various Professional Engineering Institutions across the continent. His remarkable leadership and contributions to engineering, both in Nigeria and across Africa, have distinguished him as an influential trailblazer in the field.
An emotional Engr. Idowu expressed his gratitude, saying, “I am deeply humbled and honored to receive the Young Professional Excellence Award for Leadership from the Federation of African Engineering Organizations. This recognition is not just for me but for all those who have supported our vision to advance the Engineering profession in Nigeria and Africa. It is a reflection of the collective efforts of my colleagues, mentors, and the Nigerian Society of Engineers. This award reinforces the responsibility we carry as young professionals to drive change, foster innovation, and contribute to the socio-economic development of our communities. I am truly grateful and look forward to making further contributions to our field.”
Engr. Idowu also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala, FNSE, the President of NSE, for her continued mentorship and support, and for providing a platform that allows young engineers to flourish and make meaningful contributions.
Under his leadership, the NSE Abeokuta Branch has achieved significant milestones. Engr. Idowu’s tenure has been marked by initiatives that focus on the development of young professionals and the promotion of innovative Engineering solutions that address Africa’s challenges.
In addition to his role as Chairman of NSE Abeokuta, Engr. Idowu is an alumnus of the AIG Imoukhuede Public Leadership Programme at the University of Oxford and an active member of the Academy Committee of FAEO. He also chairs the NSE’s Programmes, Branding, Publicity, and Media Relations Committee, further emphasizing his commitment to shaping the future of Engineering.
The Young Professional Excellence Award recognizes outstanding young leaders who inspire change, mobilize teams, and deliver Engineering solutions that address socio-economic challenges. Engr. Idowu’s receipt of this award highlights his continued contributions to the engineering profession and his steadfast dedication to the development of the Engineering community and society at large.
