African writers have been advised to embrace Artificial Intelligence and train it by prompting it to impute cultural and socio-politico nuances that will globalise their unique experiences.
The Registrar of Chrisland University, Abeokuta, Mr. Samuel Omotoso, gave the advice while delivering a lecture on the topic "Publishing: Traditional Vs Artificial Intelligence Revolution" at the February monthly meeting of the Ogun State Chapter of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) held at Simeon Adebo Library, Abeokuta on Saturday.
Mr. Omotoso who submitted that Artificial Intelligence was so dynamic that it had collapsed the four functions of authorship, publishing, printing and bookselling into one urged writers to approach AI with their creativity and innovation for it to help them by making their jobs easier.
He submitted that "you cannot approach AI with zero knowledge as it has no human emotions. Africans do not have enough inputs and this can be corrected by writers through creation of their own Large Language Model (LLM).
He said the world had moved on to Super Intelligence (SI) and encouraged writers to use prompt engineering to make their writing better and reduce gestation period for book and music productions.
He said Artificial Intelligence can be given instructions on what to do and what not to do, it can also be humanised to perform sundry tasks.
The Registrar noted that AI which is collective intelligence had been with us since the 50s without being conscious of it adding that aeroplanes, vehicles and internet enabled devices using man-machine communication had been deploying AI.
The Registrar said AI is threatening jobs and challenged citizens to rise up to the challenge through up skilling, research and use of technology.
The Registrar who is fondly called "digital Registrar" narrated how Artificial Intelligence had assisted Chrisland University in Examinations, Supervision of projects and general administration.
ANA Ogun State Chairman, Chief Abiodun Lasile, thanked the guest speaker for the seminal paper and informed members that more value adding lectures had been lined up in subsequent months to keep members abreast of developments in their chosen fields.
