AB EOKUTA- For Mr. Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji, Founder Penpushing Media Ltd., one of his thoughts over the years that touch on human compassion and kindness was that journalism was never meant to end on the newsroom floor or in the newsroom. Against the widespread notion that the role of journalist is to expose social ills; write on the bad side of issues, institutions and happenings, he is of the utmost believe that journalism order than being a whistle-blower can also be an enabler of solution in the society.
Perhaps, this thought explains why on Tuesday, the 15th of September, 2026, the Founder of the frontline online media outfit, Penpushing Media led his team to the State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta, where they donated medical support equipment to the facility. The gesture, he said, was deliberate — to prove that the pen profession must do more than report society’s ills.
“While I was growing up, and along the line in my career, a thought came to my mind. I said, aside from reporting people and bringing out the ills of the society, what other assistance can we render as men of the pen profession?” Kayode-Adedeji asked.
“ So, when the issue came up, the first place that came to my mind was the State Hospital Ijaiye, Abeokuta and therefore, I decided to start the donation of our little token as a way of giving back to the society here. It is more like home coming because I once worked and retired here as Head of Zone, Hospital Management Board in the Administrative department.”
According to him, although he also worked at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi- Aba Abeokuta, he decided to put the State Hospital, Ijaye first because he worked much more longer at Ijaye than at FMC assuring that other batch of equipment would be given to the Federal Medical centre, idi- aba, Abeokuta
The donation, according to him, was also aimed at complementing government’s efforts to improve healthcare services in the state.
Receiving the items, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Obabunmo Osinaike, commended the media house and called on other well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the gesture.
He noted that the hospital had previously benefited from similar donations and that such support helps bridge gaps in public health delivery.
“There was a time in this hospital when we needed some basic equipment and we just listed them out. And, incidentally, some good spirited individuals came to donate to the hospital and majority of what they donated covered some of our needs already highlighted and we put them to good use,” Dr. Osinaike said.
“ We urge other Nigerians to also support government’s efforts at delivering quality and affordable healthcare to the people.”
The CMD assured that the newly donated equipment would be deployed immediately to relevant departments. He gave the directive on the spot, with the Head of Clinical Services, Dr. Samuel Tolulope, and Assistant Director of Nursing, Mrs. Temitope Adegbite, in attendance.
Dr. Osinaike also charged journalists to follow up on good causes by individuals and organizations that promote public good.
“Men of the pen profession should always follow up on good cause by well-meaning individuals in the society especially on how such individuals promote good cause,” he said.
For Mr. Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji, the donation marks a full circle — from serving in the hospital’s administrative arm years ago, to returning now as a media leader giving back.
“Journalism should not only report problems, but also be part of finding solutions, no matter how little,” he concluded.
