DSS Pledges Full Support for Nigeria Public Relations Week

The Department of State Services, Ogun State Directorate has pledged full support to  the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) towards successful hosting of its inaugural Nigeria Public Relations Week scheduled to hold in Abeokuta from Monday 22nd to Friday 26th of April, 2024.

The Ogun State Director of the agency, Mrs Folashade Adekaiyaja, gave the assurance on Thursday while receiving members of the Security Work Group of the Nigeria Public  Relations Week led by Mr. Waheed Ogunjobi,  who stood in for the Chairman of the Security Sub Committee of the Local Organising Committee, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

Mrs Adekaiyaja stated that peace cannot be achieved in an atmosphere of insecurity, hence the need for any security agency worth its salt to always support activities that are geared towards promoting peace and orderliness.

"We exist to promote peace and anything that will promote peace. We are always available to give the needed support. Besides, for us to carry out our function effectively, we need information and you are working in a field that has to do with information management; that is why synergising with you will be to the overall advantage of all," she added.

The Director was excited about the activities lined up for the Nigeria Public Relations Week, especially the engagement with University students, saying it was a way of catching them young.

According to her, it is important to always carry the younger ones along in the scheme of things, especially on developmental efforts.

She said: "There is one aspect of the programme that I am particularly excited about. It is about 'Catching them young.' I am particularly excited about this. In fact, I have to circle it when you were talking about the activities lined up for the event.

"We need to carry the younger ones along in the scheme of things. This is because the younger ones are not always aware of how things are run and I believe events of this nature will help to galvanise them for development. If we take it down to them, it will go a long way by way of preparing them for the future ahead and a lot of problems would have been solved in the process."

On the request for support by the members of the Local Organising  Committee of the Nigeria Public Relations Week, the Ogun  State DSS Director said her men would be involved in all the activities for the week, assuring delegates and other stakeholders coming for the event of maximum security support from the agency.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Security Work Group, ACP Adejobi who was represented by the Vice Chairman of NIPR, Ogun State Chapter, Mr. Waheed Ogunjobi, informed the Director that the Nigeria Public Relations Week will be the largest gathering of Public  Relations professionals with the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, expected to grace the occasion as Special Guest of Honour while the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, is the Chief Host.

Adejobi further disclosed that the event with the theme 'Leveraging Public Relations as a Critical Asset for Nigeria's Economic and Reputation Renaissance' will attract the presence and attention of policymakers, industry players, corporate organisations, and diverse interest groups of the society across the federation, with members of the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management spread across 126 countries joining live  (virtually).

The DSS Director, on behalf of the Service, later presented a plaque to the NIPR team, saying as a reputable professional association, the agency would love to enlist members of the NIPR  as Ambassadors of Peace through the promotion of good security ambience.

The Ogun NIPR team included the Treasurer, Mrs Adijat Olaleye; the Public Relations Officer of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Mr. Yemi Ajibola; his counterpart from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Mr Olasunkanmi Olajide; the Head of Public Relations Unit of the Ogun State Housing Corporation, Mr. Bukola Akinrinde, and Mrs Elizabeth Kuforiji.
